 Introducing the Care Design 2016 team

Our mission

Across the globe, leaders of health and care systems are designing and implementing new care models that fly in the face of how care was previously delivered. If we look across the world at the experience to date, we can start to see recurring themes in the principles upon which these care models are being designed. What if we were able to distil this experience and convey this expert insight and knowledge to people who were at an earlier stage of care model development?

Care Design 2016 aims to capture and synthesise these principles, identify examples of these redesign principles in action and signpost people to tools, methods and resources that can help in the implementation of the redesign principles.

Our overall goal is to help accelerate the implementation of new care models in the UK and across the globe. History tells us that the use of well-established design principles increases the chance that a change process will be successful. We can use these redesign principles as a resource to increase knowledge and understanding of the design issues, bring together ideas, and provide a more confident starting point for change.

We have used a crowdsourcing platform so that we can involve thousands of people in this project from across the world. We want to socially create the redesign principles by unlocking the collective wisdom and experience of people who use and work in the health and care system. The approach will be overseen by a diverse expert group from around the globe. The role of the expert group is to help identify, challenge and sense-check the principles as they are developed over the next four months.

Introducing our Care Design 2016 expert group:

Our expert group consists of 29 individuals from across the world that we felt would bring unique expertise, experience and energy to our project. We are really grateful for their time and contributions leading up to the launch of the project and going forward. The expert group's role is to:

  • Challenge the thinking behind our ‘starter-for-ten’ and its subsequent iterations
  • Share their knowledge, experience and opinions generously
  • Connect their networks and colleagues into this project to encourage widespread engagement
  • Engage with our participants on the crowdsourcing platform and take an active role in the conversations

The Care Design 2016 process:

Over the next four months, we will:

  • Test, challenge, adapt and validate the core redesign principles
  • Identify methods and resources to support implementation of the redesign principles
  • Capture examples of the redesign principles in action
  • Encourage people to build the redesign principles into their change efforts and build capabilities in the methods underpinning the redesign principles

We will do this mostly through virtual methods (using this crowdsourcing platform) and will make extensive use of social media and open methods so we can learn from interested and wise people from around the world. There should be no barriers to anyone who wants to contribute by suggesting ideas, signposting resources and voting for the best ideas.

The process will culminate in the ‘Care Design 2016 Summit’ on 25th February 2016 (save the date!)
